Well done to our Juniors who secured an away win last night Division 1C Round 8 (12.8.17) Louisburgh 2-5 CLG Acla 0-12 Achill travelled to Louisburgh yesterday evening for a league fixture which pitched them against last season's All Ireland Junior Club Finalists. The game, which was streamed live by Louisburgh GAA, was played in glorious conditions, and will go down as performance to remember for the green and white. An early Louisburgh lead was quickly cancelled out by Michael Dara Sweeney's first point of the evening, before a Louisburgh purple patch, which yielded a goal and a point, saw the hosts take a four point lead. Michael Dara Sweeney scored his second point and a John Joyce free around the 15 minute mark kept Achill in touch. Louisburgh found the net once more, but an earlier point from Oisín Cooney, combined with 2 more late frees from John Joyce, ensured the half-time margin was far from insurmountable. Louisburgh 2-4 CLG Acla 0-6. In the second half it was all Achill, as the lads launched a spectacular comeback. 4 unanswered points, 2 from the boot of Johnathan Fadian and 2 further frees from John Joyce, squared things up as the last quarter beckoned. Louisburgh's only score of the second half, a point, was kicked over in the twentieth minute, pushing the black and gold ahead once more, but soon after yet another John Joyce free tied matters up one more time. This game may have been an enjoyable one for the neutral, but it was certainly nailbiting and at times almost heart-stopping for the supporters of the teams involved. As an action-packed final few minutes ticked away, either team would have been forgiven for playing for a draw, but a determined Achill went head on for the win, their efforts rewarded as they watched a beautiful point sail over the bar from the boot of No 6 Eddie Doran. The Achill backs were hugely tested as the game drew to its conclusion, but Ciarán Boylan and James Gallagher showed they were more than equal to the task and Achill departed Louisburgh victorious by the bare mininum after an enthralling encounter.
