Well done to Achill's young musicians who proved themselves worthy of their Connacht Final place, with a fine performance in Claremorris on Saturday afternoon. Like all competitions, the instrumental music section was closely contested. It was to be Galway's day however, and they will represent Connacht GAA in this section in the All Ireland Final of Scór in Belfast on February 11th. The Achill Quiz Team will represent Mayo on this day also. Thanks to Cian McNamara and Lorraine McNulty who put in many hours of work with the music group. Full results from Sunday: FIGURE DANCING: Louisburgh, Co Mayo. SOLO SINGING: Ava Fitzpatrick, Claremorris GAA Club, Co Mayo. RECITATION: Eilís McDermott, Davitts GAA, Co Mayo. BALLAD GROUP: St Mary's, Co Leitrim. LÉIRIÚ: St Dominic's, Co Roscommon. MUSIC: Abbeyknockmoy, Co Galway. SET DANCING: Abbeyknockmoy, Co Galway. The winners were presented with their Connacht medals by Connacht Scór ambassador David Clarke, fresh from resumption of duties between the posts for Mayo in Ballina Stephenites GAA Club today. He reminded everyone that GAA is not just about two games in September. He recalled the teachings of his history lessons in school, and the strong desire for the promotion of our Irish culture held by the founder members of the GAA. An extremely entertaining afternoon staged by the wealth of young talent in our province. Maith sibh uilig! |
