Scéal Pháirc an Dáibhéidigh (The Story of Davitt Park) The decision to develop a Club Grounds at Achill Sound was taken at a club meeting on the 20th October 1958. The late Martin McGinty of the Points, Achill Sound then contracting in London provided the actual purchase price and additional funds were provided generously by Achill emigrants and local contributors. Approximately £4500 was spent on the development of dressing rooms and extension of the pitch which began in 1977 with grants from Roinn Na Gaeltachta and Bord na bPáirc of the G.A.A. The official opening of Páirc an Dáibhéidigh marked that development on Sunday May the 6th 1979 with the clash of Mayo and Offaly senior teams. The field which had been known as Páirc an Mháilligh or as Alice's Field was officially named Páirc an Dáibhéidigh at the Achill G.A.A. Annual Convention of 14th January 1979. Since then improvement of dressing room facilities, drainage, leveling, re-surfacing, seeding and the erection of a stand and perimeter fence have been completed through fundraising and grants from the National Lottery and Roinn na Gaeltachta and work provided by Fás schemes. Games and training will resume in March and the club plans to officially open this excellent facility in April. The Mayo senior team has agreed to play at the opening and the club has begun organizing a suitable date and opposition. The present club officers, the contractor and Fás participants are to be congratulated on the quality and standard of work.
